We’ve played over 100 new games this year, and this list is where we round up the best board games 2026 has given us as a family of 9. We keep adding new favorites all year long, so whether you’re here in July or shopping for Christmas, you’ll find our latest picks.
Starting the list early means we get to add great titles we missed from last year’s roundup, plus every new favorite between now and the holidays.
This year has brought standout games for every age in our house, from our youngest players (see our toddler picks) all the way up to our date night picks for mom and dad. A real family game has to work across a wide range of ages and skill levels. That means simple rules, gameplay everyone actually enjoys, and a play time that doesn’t outstay its welcome.
Every game on this list passed that test in our house, whether we played it together as a family or just the two of us on a date night at home.

These are the picks that work for a wide age range at once. If you’re looking for your next favorite board game, these are the games of 2026 to check out!
Sanibel – Age 8+
We love that the theme is so strong you can hear the ocean and the sand under your feet while you play. In the game you’re drafting shell tiles as you walk up and down the beach and arranging them in your bag to score points, and each type of shell scores differently. I love how the decision to race ahead and pass up other shells matched our experience collecting shells. It is a beautiful, relaxing game that still has plenty of puzzle to keep you thinking.
Frosted Blooms – Age 8+
A stand out gaming experience this year! If you love puzzle games this is going to be right up your alley. Frosted Blooms is like playing two different tile games at once. You select tiles to add to your garden which will score you points from the landscapes you’ve chosen, but the negative space that is created by the tiles you place also scores. You’re paying attention to negative spaces as much as you are to what you add all to create the most harmonious tulip garden. It’s a beautiful game that scratches the brain just right!

Got Five – Age 8+
Got Five proves once again that sometimes simple is exactly what is best.
This is a pure logical deduction game. No flashy gimmicks, no crazy theme. Each player has a selection of five numbers in front of them they are trying to deduce. Everyone can see all other players’ numbers, just not their own. You’ll rely on shared information and clever questions to zero in on your five numbers first to win. It’s a fantastic, straight forward logic game that is fun play after play.

Wingspan Pocket – Age 9+
Wingspan Pocket is a brand new, standalone game in the Wingspan universe that takes the full Wingspan experience and reimagines it as a lighter, shorter, card game. We loved the entire experience — it has everything you love about Wingspan. Plenty of clever strategies to explore, tough choices that all feel important, and beautiful bird illustrations with new powers designed specifically for this Pocket experience. This is not only great for players new to Wingspan, but a fantastic option for experienced Wingspan players looking for the strategy they love in a shorter playtime.

Market Fresh – Age 8+
This game got two thumbs up from every member of our family!
Market Fresh is a highly addicting tile placement puzzle that sees you stacking crates of produce strategically to maximize points. The 3D crates are one of the cutest components I’ve seen in a game recently and add to much to the overall play experience. This is a great family weight game that’s light enough for 8 year olds to play but still hides a deceptively tricky puzzle that will challenge experienced adults.
Las Vegas – Age 8+
I am so happy to finally see Las Vegas back and better than ever in 2026!
One of our long time favorite push your luck games. Roll dice and choose which ones to place at the casinos. If you can control the casino at the end of the round, you’ll win the rewards. Las Vegas has a fantastic layer of timing where players are looking to snag casinos at the right time with as few dice as possible. The new edition brings in Big Dice, larger casino rewards, and a streamlined play for the best Las Vegas experience yet.

Carnuta – Age 10+
A fun resource management game that reminds me a lot of Point Salad. You’re combining ingredients and managing runes to create the best potion you can. The turns are snappy, the decisions are satisfying, and it wraps up in about 25 minutes. Another great weeknight game that plays well with 2 to 4 players.
Best Cooperative Games of 2026
If you’d prefer a game where everyone works together, these new cooperative board games of 2026 are for you! Shared goals, collaborative game play, and winning (or losing) together!
Cozy Stickerville – Age 10+
This is our top pick of 2026, which is crazy because it’s more of an experience than a game. Cozy Stickerville is a simulation game unlike anything else we’ve played this year. You and your family manage a growing village using over 800 stickers to build houses, farms, shops, and more. Every decision shapes the future of your village and its residents. What makes it truly special is how unique the experience is. No two playthroughs will look the same, and you will want to play through the game twice thanks to the double-sided board. The ten game campaign was a breeze to manage and a joy to play with our 6-year-old. It’s a heavily reading dependent game, so if your kids want to play on their own, you’re looking at about 10+ for age here. If you are a fan of cozy video games like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley, this one is for you.

Take Time – Ages 10+
This is a cooperative card game where you play cards around a clock without communicating with your teammates. We love how the game eases you into more complex challenges as you get better. It was a hoot to play this game with verbal processors and watch them deal with not being able to talk during play. If you enjoy cooperative games like The Crew or Bomb Busters, this is one to check out.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Trick-Taking Game – Age 10+
New challenges and more unique win and loss conditions make this sequel even better than the first game. If you played and loved The Fellowship of the Ring trick-taking game last year, you need to pick this up. You’re playing through the story of The Two Towers, completing unique objectives each chapter. It’s a cooperative trick-taking experience that works at all player counts, even if you are not the biggest Lord of the Rings fan.
Boss Fighters QR – Age 10+
This one requires an app, but it is so smooth it really helps handle all the stat tracking that can slow down boss battles. You and your team pick heroes from different races and classes, then battle through a campaign of boss fights. Each boss reacts to your choices in real time through the app, so you never know exactly what’s coming. It’s cooperative, it’s strategic, and the progression of upgrading your deck after each fight is super satisfying.

If you’re looking for something for your kids specifically that you the parent will enjoy as well, these new kids games are perfect for budding gamers and their families.
Oh My Socks – Age 5+
This simple set collection game in a tiny box was a surprise hit for us. Normally, our kids avoid matching socks from laundry, but this silly theme works great, and the gameplay is light enough that younger players can jump right in while still being satisfying for adults. It’s one of those games that keeps ending up on the table because it’s so easy to say “one more round.” The small box size makes it easy to toss in a bag for travel or a trip to the grandparents’ house.
Carni Flora – Age 5+
We’re always looking for games that provide a great on-ramp for younger kids into strategy games and Carni Flora does just that!
You grow your carnivorous plants as quickly as you can to eat up lots of flies. Players are learning how to arrange their tiles strategically to attract flies, there are lots of ways to score points, and it all plays quickly with straightforward rules. Great for young kids ready to step into their first strategy game.
Ghosts Galore – Age 6+
This is a perfect weeknight game. It plays quickly and supports 5+ players. Our 5 year old plays without help, but the puzzle is satisfying enough that the adults want to play it in the evening once the kids are in bed. You’re building a ghost train track in an abandoned mine, drafting tiles each round with a fun push-your-luck element. Do you grab the tile you see, or hope for something better in the stack? It’s quick to teach, quick to play, and we keep coming back to it.
Best Card Games of 2026
Almost every year, a card game rises to the top as our most played and often favorite game of the year. These new card games of 2026 are quick to play perfect for almost any group.
Rollie – Age 6+
Rollie is going to be your family’s favorite new push your luck game. Roll the dice and decide to take more money or secure what you have in your wallet before a crash wipes you out. Rollie is a press-your-luck game that creates big, loud moments at the table. Everyone is making decisions at once, and the tension builds round after round. If you love the highs and lows of gambling style party games, this one delivers.
Collect! – Age 7+
This small box card game from CMON is a favorite among our kids, who all love an interactive card game. It’s fast, fun, and the kind of game the kids pull off the shelf on their own. The simple joys that come from using an alligator to eat a card to block a win or using a chameleon to secure your victory are what has our family playing this game again and again.
DNUP – Age 9+
Hand management with a flip mechanic. Every card has two numbers. Play one side or flip your entire hand to play the others. Cards are constantly being played, flipped, and returned as everyone tries to play sets that can’t be beaten or intentionally lose to gain better cards. You’re always adapting your strategy and no two games ever feel alike!
Sea Scroll – Age 8+
Set collection with a twist you won’t see coming. Only the player holding the majority of each set scores. Everyone else gets negative points.
That single rule changes everything. You spend the whole game reading the table, deciding when to hold and when to cut your losses. Smart, fast, and way more tense than it looks.
Catan on the Road – Age 9+
Bottles up the Catan experience into a quick card game perfect for taking, well…on the road.
I’m going to be honest. I’m not the biggest Catan fan, so no one was more surprised than me that I found this game really fun! It’s a race to reach 7 victory points and it ends with “let’s play that again” energy.
Fliptoons – Age 10+
This unique deck builder is a lot of fun. You have to recruit the best wacky cartoon characters for their unique abilities to earn fame. In each round, you shuffle your deck and flip out a grid of six characters, and the surprise of how your deck flips out each round is what makes it special. It’s a race to be the first to hit 30 fame, and then everyone gets one final flip to see who wins. We enjoy the ease of crafting your deck and playing it out in your grid. A huge hit with our boys ages 8-12 because it gets right into the fun.
Best Party Games of 2026
Whether you want a lighter game for family night or are looking for something you can play with a group of friends, these new party games of 2026 are a great addition to your game shelf!
Lost! in the Woods – Age 7+
One player is “lost” somewhere on a large illustrated map. The rest of the group has to find them by listening to their description of where they are. But there’s a catch. A communication card creates a silly restriction on how the lost player can describe what they see! If the search party can find them before time runs out, everyone wins. It’s a fantastic family game that gets everyone laughing and leaning over the table together. For families that love completing seek and find puzzles, this is going to be a huge hit. The best part is that the map is so big, and the restrictions are so silly that you can play this game over and over again and not feel like you know where everything is going to be immediately.
Hummingbirds – Age 7+
We love the real-time nature of this game. You place your hummingbird tokens on top of hidden sand timers, and when you think the timer has run out, you pull your bird up to check. If the sand has run out, you collect a nectar token. If not, you lose one. The hilarious moments come from just barely missing out on points because you pulled your bird off too soon. You think you know how long a minute is until you start playing this game. It brings everyone close together over the table and there is zero downtime.
This game is going to be in the running for best party game of the year because WOW is it fun!
It manages to make a game with bluffing and backstabbing somehow not mean and something the whole family can play. Players are trying to find Excalibur among the tiles and use the varied powers to either keep or acquire it for themselves. Clever, quick, and fun! Exactly what I want from a party game. With help, younger kids are perfectly capable of learning and playing this with the family.
Light Speed Arena – Age 8+
We love how this game blends real-time gameplay with an app for easy scoring. You’re placing spaceship tiles on the table in rapid 10-second rounds, trying to aim your lasers at enemy ships and asteroids. When everyone is done, you snap a photo with the companion app and it instantly calculates all the damage and scores for you. No measuring. No arguing about who hit what. Just fast, chaotic space battles that everyone wants to play again immediately.
Celestia – Age 9+
This is our brother’s favorite game, and he never plays games. That tells you everything you need to know. Celestia is a semi-cooperative push-your-luck experience where players ride an airship to collect treasures. Each stop, you decide if you trust the captain to keep the ship flying or bail out with what you’ve got. It has been responsible for our most memorable game sessions all year. Big table talk. Big laughs. Big moments.

Best Strategy Board Games of 2026
When you want something you can sink your teeth into and puzzle over, these strategy board games of 2026 offer the perfect mix of accessible game play and layered strategy that will delight strategy players.
Qomet – Age 7+
Another great game in the Gigamic abstract two-player line. If you love Quoridor, Qawale, or any of the other games in their lineup, you need to add this one. The best things about a great abstract game are that the whole family can play because the rules are simple and straightforward, but to win, you have to be clever. You are placing and sliding star pieces on a board, trying to form a square of four stars in your color before your opponent does. This has been our go to backyard patio game as the family winds down after dinner.

Daydream – Age 8+
If you’re on the hunt for your next cozy board game favorite, look no further. Daydream is a lovely roll and write. Roll dice and place their values into the grids on your board.
All players play simultaneously so no one is ever waiting for their turn. The board folds into 8 different combinations to give you plenty of variety from game to game. And I don’t know what’s better, that it is one of the few games I like to play solo or that it comes with its own playlist to enjoy while playing!
Moon Colony Bloodbath – Age 10-12+
Moon Colony Bloodbath might go down as the board game that took me most by surprise in 2026. This game is crazy fun.
Everyone is building their engine and tearing it apart during the game. You know your city is bound for destruction, you’re just trying to hold on until the last moment with the most survivors. It creates for some of the funniest “oh no this is not going well” moments as cards you put into the deck to hurt your opponents start turning on you.
Orbit – Age 10+
Simple rules with deep gameplay decisions. This is a tactical space race where players compete to visit all the planets in a system and return home first. The planets actually move along their orbits, so the map is constantly shifting. It’s a great space themed game that is still approachable for younger players.
