This is a Valentine themed version of the popular paper and pencil game we shared last year called Black Hole.

We’ve adjusted the layout of the circles to resemble a heart. In this version, called CUPID, two players will attempt to have the MOST points at the end of the game.

How to Play Cupid (Black Hole: Valentine’s Version)

To play, you and a player will take turns writing the numbers 1-10 in sequence into open circles on the board, beginning with the number 1 and ending with the number 10.

You each will need to use your own color for your numbers.

If you’re making these for Valentine’s cards to give out at school, you can add these affordable multicolor pens to the card so players can play together!

Once both players have written their final number (10) into an open circle, there will be one circle left. This circle is “pierced by cupid’s arrow” and players add up the total of all of their numbers in circles adjacent to this circle.

The player with the most points wins.

Tips for winning and sharing the strategy of the game.

Make sure you don’t allow your opponent to create locations where mostly their own numbers are. You need to make sure you have some of your numbers everywhere so that you can have a chance to win as the game comes to a close.
If you notice a spot where you can’t win, place a number in that circle so that your opponent doesn’t let it become the black hole. Sometimes using up a number in a place you can’t win is best. The earlier the better!
