Mooki Island has been a top choice for our kids and Iโ€™ve heard from so many families that itโ€™s been for their kids, too! Itโ€™s currently nominated for the Kinderspiel des Jahres to be crowned the childrenโ€™s game of the year and we are all hoping it brings home the win!
Comment โ€œGamesโ€ for the full Age 4 List! All ages Comment โ€œGamesโ€ for the full Age 4 List!

All ages are so unique and fun and age four is no different. What I love so much about this stage is how four year olds are still delighted by the games they played as young toddlers yet are starting to become interested in โ€œbig kidโ€ games more and more. These games bridge that gap well and theyโ€™ll enjoy them well beyond age four!
That was a close game! Learn how to play Beat the That was a close game!
Learn how to play Beat the Deck below! And if you love learning new games to play with your family, be sure to follow!

How to play:
Goal: flip out the entire deck onto the stacks in the grid by correctly calling higher or lower.
Set up:
Make a 3x3 grid of cards hold the rest of the deck in your hands.

Choose one of the cards in the grid and say whether you think the top card in the deck will be higher or lower than that card. (Cards are ranked Ace low to King high)
Flip the top card from the deck onto it. If you were right, repeat this step on any of the remaining piles in the grid.
If you were wrong, flip that entire pile over. Now that pile is out of the game.
If the card you flip out equals the card on top of the pile (a 6 on a 6) flip the entire pack over. Itโ€™s out of the game.

Continue until either youโ€™ve gotten through the entire deck and win, or have no more piles left in the grid. Count your remaining cards. Lowest score wins.

Try these game modifications:

Make the game harder: Move through the tableau one card at a time. Donโ€™t move on to a new card until youโ€™ve lost on your current card.

Make the game easier: add another column for a 12 card tableau. This is a good option for young kids.

My philosophy on screens as a mom of 7: screens ar My philosophy on screens as a mom of 7: screens arenโ€™t the enemy, but if you want to lessen the amount theyโ€™re used, you need to lower the friction towards other activities. We donโ€™t keep games and activities behind locked doors, we encourage boredom and outside fun, and I donโ€™t micromanage their choices for play.

Shuffling cards can be tricky, having a good shuffler can help kids confidently do this frequent game task without needing assistance. It was one of our top picks from our recent automatic shuffler review.
