The 12 Days of Christmas Dice game is an easy game perfect for playing with your family during Advent and Christmas! All you need is a piece of paper and 12 dice. If you need dice, this set is great and can be used for a wide variety of games!
What You Need:
- 12 six sided dice
- Paper and Pen to keep score (or you can use our printable scoresheet)

Goal:
Earn the most points from your banked dice over the course of 12 rounds.
How to Play 12 Days of Christmas Dice Game
Each round you will roll dice equal to the round number.
Example: One die in round 1, Two dice in round 2, Three dice in round 3 etc etc.
On your turn, you will follow these steps:
- Roll all dice for the round
- Choose a number from the rolled dice, set aside all dice with that result.
Example: you roll five dice in round 5 with the results 4-4-6-1-2, you choose to set aside both dice showing the 4’s. - Decide to roll again or stop and bank your points.
If you choose to stop and bank your points, write down the sum of all dice you set aside for the round.
Pass the dice to the next player
If you choose to roll again, roll all dice not set aside and repeat Steps 1-3. This time however you may not set aside any dice with the value(s) previously set aside. You must select a number you have not set aside yet.
If you roll and cannot set aside any dice, you bust and score nothing for the round.
Continue playing this way for all 12 rounds, adding one die to roll each round until you are rolling twelve dice for round 12.
Winning:
After the final round, up the scores from all 12 rounds. The player with the most points from all 12 rounds wins the game.
Tips for playing 12 Days of Christmas Dice Game
You can be strategic about which dice you set aside, it’s not always wise to choose the highest number. Sometimes its better to set aside a lower value so you don’t lose too many dice, giving you a chance to roll more of a higher value on a future roll.
