We’re moving!! Here’s a sneak peek at our next adventure!

We’re moving!

But we’re not going far! It was hard to imagine leaving our home that we truly loved, but after a long and prayerful search for a place with more room for our family, we finally found a home that can meet the needs of our family and ever growing kids! And thankfully, it’s in the same city that we’ve come to love!

Shortly after the start of the year we found new community building in our city that just felt right and we decided to take the leap and go for it! (This makes it sound like it was a much easier “yes” than it was — sometimes choosing between two good things is so incredibly hard.)

So fast forward to now, and we’re about 1 month away from moving into our home and we cannot wait!

But of course one of the hardest things to leave behind were the built ins that I worked so hard creating. They completely changed the entire feeling of our home and to say I was emotionally attached to them would be an understatement.

Adam practically had to drag me away from them on our last day while I screamed “Iiiiiiiiiiiii-eeee-iiiiiii will always love youuuuuu-ooooo!

But if I built them once, I can build them again! And that’s the plan — except this time I know they’ll be even better!

In our last home, it was all about finding ways to hide and disguise a game room in our one living space. Like many we had an open concept home which meant that the dining room, kitchen, and living room all shared the same space. (I am officially over this design — can we PLEASE bring back rooms!) Since our living room wall was the focal point for….everything in our home, I wanted it to be a show stopping piece that also managed to store everything our family of 9 needed. So we had cabinets on the bottom (wall cabinets so they didn’t take up much of the precious little floor space) and bookshelves I took to the ceiling to make the whole room feel grand and larger than it was.

This needed to be a room that could function for family meals, game nights, homeschooling, relaxing, movie watching and everything else a family does because, again, it was our only living space.

I’m happy to say, Mission: accomplished!

You can read all about how I built the cabinets, and how I built the built ins here!

But now, we’re so excited to finally have a couple different living locations. Yay for spreading out and not living on top of each other!

This includes…drumroll please…….a designated gaming space! (Cue crowd cheering wildly!)

So without further ado, here’s a sneak peek at the future game room!

Isn’t it amazing!

I saw dozens of homes over the past year or so and each time I could just never see it. But when I walked into this house, I could instantly see our family here. Game nights around the table, homemade art on the wall, painting supplies and half finished minis scattered around, the Crokinole board welcoming everyone to our home… I could just see it!

So what’s the plan?

The plan is to take everything I learned with the last build, and improve upon it and design it specifically for the long haul. I don’t have to worry about the shelves being used for anything other than games this time, so dimensions will change. The room is large enough that I don’t have to compromise on the cabinet size.

Right now, since it’s all in the dream stage, I’m envisioning a floor to ceiling unit. Likely with cabinets on the bottom, potentially some drawer units for extra flexibility!

But the element I’m most excited for is what I couldn’t do last time. A rolling library ladder!

Do I know how to make one of those? Absolutely not. But no one knows anything before they learn, and I’m determined to learn because how amazing will that look!

But wait, there’s more! Because this room has not one but two giant walls begging for bookshelves. So why not build sister units?

More very professional renderings for you.

Having two shelving units gives me the flexibility to build them for different needs. So while the large shelves with the ladder (it’s so happening!) will be deeper for larger games and items needing stored, the second shelving unit I want to build with a traditional bookshelf depth of 9-11 inches. This will make it perfect for storing books (obviously) but also smaller games!

I’m so excited to take you along for this next adventure! I have so many fun projects swirling around in my mind and these are going to be one of the first ones we tackle!
