Holiday Gift Guide for Puzzle Lovers

We love playing games, especially around the holidays, but sometimes, after all the cooking and cleaning, we love a simple quick activity that we can engage with passively as a family. This is when we bring out the puzzles. Puzzles are perfect for keeping little kids busy while waiting for the rolls to rise, or puzzling alongside others while listening to your current audiobook. Nothing beats the satisfaction of placing the final piece of your puzzle.

Fun Puzzles for Kids

Fun puzzles for tiny hands.

The A to Z Dogs / The A to Z Cats:

We love these fun-shaped puzzles and cute illustrations from Seungyoun Kim. Plus kids will learn about the different breeds of cats and dogs. Excellent for ages 4+

Genius Games

If you have a kid who loves dinosaurs you have to get them one of these puzzles. There are three to choose from, Ankylosaurus, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus Rex. The puzzles are huge with sturdy pieces. Both sides are printed on so you can enjoy the full-color image or the skeleton side that glows in the dark. Like all Genius Games products, it comes with a science guide to help with interactive learning.

Older Kids – make sure to check out Genius Games anatomy puzzles as well.

Buffalo Games

Buffalo Games makes solid puzzles at an affordable price from 100 to 2000 pieces. We like them for kids puzzles because they make lots of fun puzzle prints of popular characters like Marvel and Pokemon.

Great Puzzle Companies

Whether you are looking for a puzzle for a beginner or an expert, these are the go-to companies for quality puzzles in terms of fit and variety of puzzle selection.

Ravensburger

Ravensburger uses premium materials and exacting standards, resulting in puzzles with excellent fit and durability. Each well-made puzzle piece has a slightly different shape on each side, creating precise fits with no wiggle room or variation for a gratifying assembly experience. These puzzles easily pass the lift test once finished.

Eurographics Puzzle:

Eurographics puzzles feature high-quality images of beautiful scenes from around the world and even silly cats. They make puzzles from 35 to 2000 pieces counts, providing an engaging challenge for any puzzle enthusiast. As Eurographics puzzles do not have wiggle room or variation in piece shapes like some other brands, they provide a satisfying precision puzzle experience for those seeking exact fits between pieces.

Unique Puzzles

Each of these puzzles adds a little something extra to the puzzle experience

The Magic Puzzle Company:

These puzzles are really neat and I would love to tell you more but I would hate to spoil the surprise. All I can say is advertised magic trick at the end is real. The other thing I love is they include two art posters of the image so multiple people can work together easily. We don’t do many 1000 pieces puzzles but this one was worth it.

Exit the Game Puzzles

The popular escape room at home series Exit the Game now has puzzle adventures. There are four 88-piece puzzles you will complete to help you discover the riddles you’ll need to solve. These look like the perfect challenge for both the gamer and puzzler.

Big Potato – 101 Riddle Puzzles

Big Potato is best known for its great party games, but they recently made a series of puzzles with 101 riddles. Each puzzle is an image packed with clues referencing popular books, movies, bands, or video games. Challenge yourself to get as many as you can while you complete the puzzle.

Puzzle Advent Calendars

Puzzle Advent calendars are a great way to slow down and celebrate the holiday season and make the 1000-piece puzzle more manageable to complete.

The Vermont Christmas Company:

The Vermont Christmas Company has a few puzzle advent calendars, but this one was our favorite. We like how this is a full 24-day puzzle advent calendar and each box is reusable so the same packaging can be used again next year or gifted. All the pieces are numbered on the back to help with sorting.

Lang Woodland Snowman Advent Calendar

This beautiful advent calendar is perfect for someone looking for a smaller puzzle and a shorter experience as it is only a 500-piece puzzle over 12 days. The packaging is reusable, but it also comes with a drawstring bag if you want to store all the pieces together at the end of the season.

Pintoo Christmas Advent Calendar

Pintoo’s advent calendar is unique because instead of one image divided up over multiple days, there are 17 different puzzles over the 24 days. Pintoo puzzles are made of plastic which makes for the fun 3-D shape puzzles. The advent calendar features an engaging storyline, so we can’t wait to do it with our kids this year.

Puzzle Board

Newverest Puzzle Board

Puzzles require a nice flat surface and before, we either had to give up our dining table for however long it took to complete the puzzle, or put it all back in the box before finishing. This puzzle board has been great for allowing the kids to work on the puzzles at their pace, learn to sort pieces for more effective puzzling, and transporting the puzzle around the house as needed. This board is large enough to complete 1500pc puzzles. If you like doing puzzles, but don’t have a dedicated space where you can leave a puzzle out, I would recommend getting a puzzle board.
