Best Solo Board Games

Enchanted Ivy

Our favorite solo games are quick, cozy, and puzzly, and Enchanted Ivy has all three in spades. Each chapter is a clever little puzzle that takes about 15 minutes to complete and can earn you stickers to unlock secret surprises, making it hard to stop at just one. The gorgeous art and whimsical feel makes this one of the most charming solo games we’ve planned.

Kinfire Delve Series

(Scorn’s Stockade, Vainglory’s Grotto, Callous Lab)

From its presentation to its game play the Kinfire Devle series is top-notch. It’s unique card management and rich narrative blend together to creat a highly replayable experience. This is the best new solo game we played in 2024. Psst… it also plays great with two.

Giiker Camp Guru

Screen-free logic puzzles are a kid’s love. With 600 built-in challenges, our kids cannot put this down. The challenges start simple and grow trickier as you progress. Its compact design is perfect for an easy go to active for car rides, quiet times, or independent play.

Cozy Stickerville

Build your dream village one sticker at a time with stories, choices, and over 800 stickers that make every town unique. There’s no way to lose, just a peaceful experience that is fun to be shared by yourself or with others. Played over 10 sessions, each taking about 30 minutes to complete, means your town will be done in no time. The dual-sided board lets you play through the whole game twice.

Orchard / Grove / Forage

These three games come in a cute little trilogy set; keep them all together or gift them each individually.

All three are so compact and cute I choose to include them all. All three games have you overlapping nine cards to earn a high score. There is enough variety in each game, we are keeping all three, but if we only kept one it would be Grove.

MicroMacro Crime City

Sherlock Holmes meets Waldo is this mix of visual puzzle and crime solving. This is our teen daughter’s favorite game right now to play by herself or with friends.

There are four games in the series and a bonus box. Chose any of the four to start with, then combine all four maps together to solve epic cases with the bonus box!

Crime City | Full House | All In | Showdown | Bonus Box

Don’t Miss Out of the excellent Kid’s Version

Legacy of Yu

A really immersive solo experience with a resettable narrative that Adam could not stop playing. This solo deck building game is great for anyone wanting more story to their solo puzzle games instead just trying to beat a high score.

Warp’s Edge

This sci-fi bag builder is our top solo recommendation for anyone who loves push-your-luck and deck-building games. With multiple spaceships and variable difficulty there the replayability is as endless as space itself. We highly recommend getting some coin capsules as a low cost upgrade to the game.

Witchcraft!

Lead a coven of witches to protect the village from monsters, all while trying to avoid suspicion of being banished as witches from the villagers. Correctly deciding when to use magic for the big power or to hold back to avoid getting put on trial is the key to victory. Gameplay is tense and clever, full of variety, making it our favorite solo card game since it provides a real challenge.

Castle Panic

For fans of tower defense games, this family cooperative game also plays great solo. Our son plays this one by himself because he enjoys halting the barrage of endless monsters.

Cascadia

This cozy tile placement game is known for being great for families, but it is also a sneaky great solo. The solo experience matches the feel of traditional multiplayer gameplay allowing you get have great game night no matter the number of available players.

Gentle Rain

For those truly wanting a zen puzzle solo game, this solo only game is a hit. Our five year old loves how simple it is to play and how rewarding it is to place that perfect tile to place your flower. There is a Target exclusive version that we really enjoy, but the standard edition is great too and the gameplay is the same in both.

Kronologic Paris

For fans of time-travel and intricate puzzles, Kronologic Paris offers a captivating solo experience. Its unique mechanics make it an engaging and thought-provoking deduction that will keep you hooked.

Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship

This multiplayer cooperative game also happens to be an amazing solo experience. The game components are top noch with 13 unique chatacter mini and Eye of Sauron dice tower. The gameplay manages to feel familiar while being unique, and the variety in challenges are excellent. All feel tense yet achievable, making this an epic game that can still be played in an hour.

Daydream

This relaxing roll-and-write is a vibe, and I am totally here for it. This is a multiplayer game, but we love chasing our high schore in the solo mode. The foldout board unlocks eight different scenes with their own twists, from easy to tricky. It even comes with its own playlist. The perfect companion for the nights I want to listen music and engage my brain a cozy puzzle.

Dorfromantik

A must-have for solo players who enjoy tile-laying games and city-building, providing a smooth and satisfying experience as you create a picturesque landscape. Its campaign mode and unlockable content offer great replayability, making it an excellent choice for a relaxing yet engaging solo game.

If you love poker and supernatural Wild West themes, this is a game you have to check out. You’ll use poker hands to defeat enemies, to gain new powers as you progress towards the final boss, where you’ve hoped that you’ve leveled up enough to claim victory. It’s quick, full of smart choices, and a fun little card game for when poker night gets canceled.

Coffee Roaster

A delightful solo-only game where you draw bean tokens from your bag to roast the perfect cup of joe. Each round is simple and straightforward, with just enough push-your-luck tension to keep things exciting.
