This post is part of our holiday gift guide for the 2020 season! To read this year’s full list of board game recommendations for all ages click here!
1. Gnoming Around
Grandpa Beck’s Games is a no-brainer for Stocking stuffers! Their fantastic card games will not only fit in the stocking, but they won’t break the bank! This updated version to their first family game “Golf” is absolutely lovely and perfect for holiday fun around the table! I can almost smell the hot chocolate and sweets now!
2. Nutts About Mutts
For your little ones, you’ll definitely want to pick up a copy of our kids’ favorite card game Nutts About Mutts! Also from Grandpa Beck’s Games and also redesigned this year! Boy have they been busy! This is an “uno” style game with beautiful art and a fun theme that kids just love! Perfect for players as young as four!
3. The Crew: The Quest for Planet Nine
We could have easily put this game in our family category on last week’s list, but because of it’s insanely low cost, we think you need to put this in at least one stocking or white elephant exchange this year! This trick taking game is the perfect gift for any card sleuths you know! Read our full review here!
4. Silver & Gold
I love a good flip-and-write! Silver & Gold is a fun, fast, and well designed game that you have probably seen hanging out in the Target game aisle! If you haven’t picked it up yet; Now is the time!
5. Quinto
While you’re grabbing Silver & Gold, you might as well toss this in your cart too! Quinto is our current roll-and-write love! The first game to unseat Quixx as our official glove box game! (You had an amazing 5 year run, Quixx, but it was time.)
6. Fluttering Souls
This is a beautiful butterfly themed card game for two players and the perfect present to have flutter into a friend or loved one’s stocking! Read our full review here!
7. Love Letter
This classic game is the perfect stocking stuffer! If you don’t have it, you need it! If you do have it, consider trying out one of their spin offs! We have been loving the new Marvel Love Letter! It’s a unique game all unto itself under the Love Letter brand and not just a re-theme of the original!
8. Wallet Games from Button Shy!
We absolutely love these pocketable games from Button Shy! This small family run game publisher has some really fantastic card games which usually only consist of about 18 cards! They come in an adorable wallet and at only $12 you’ll probably find yourself picking up more than one!
Our two favorites: Tussie Mussie and Sprawlopolis!
9. Exit Games
Can’t go wrong with a good Exit Game! These one time play games make for a fantastic gaming experience! Buy one to gift your family a fun evening filled with puzzles and mystery! I linked our favorites for you here!
10. Last One Lost
We love this simple, travel ready, silicone game! It’s both a game and a sensory toy. Our older two kids love the challenge of not being the last one to pop a bubble, our middle two love that it functions like never ending bubble wrap, and our 1 year old loves chewing on it. Rare to find a game that works for everyone! 😉
11. Similo
At $10, Similo is a must add for this list. We’ve been hooked on the app version of this game; playing it almost nightly with the kids! This is a cooperative deduction game where you’r goal is to make the other players guess the one secret character out of a total of twelve possibilities by playing other characters as clues, saying whether the secret character is similar or different to the clue card. It’s fun for adults and kids an a great filler game – especially for the holidays! If you’ve got multiple stockings to fill, there are three different versions: Fables, History, and Myths!
12. Barnyard Bunch
This new game from HABA is a cute one! We love it for three reasons: The rules are simple enough kids 4+ can play on their own, players have to think through and make simple choices, the theme hits perfect for preschoolers! It’s a go-to for when I need 10 minutes to get something done, the kids can play this on their own without my help happily.
13. Claim
A fantastic trick taking game for two! The tricks you take in the first round determines the hand you’ll have to work with in the second! This little deck of cards is addicting!
14. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza
Sometimes you just need a silly game! This one fits the bill. It’s simple, goofy, and bound to bring laughs. While everyone will have fun, this is a great game to gift to the tweens in the family or anyone who works with youth groups as well!
15. Farmini
Couldn’t end this list without another suggestion for our favorite pint size gamers! Farmini is a great tile placement game for kids around age 5+ with an adorable art. I love that it’s strategic without being punishing and helps them become a better player and critical thinker while having fun! Full review here.
