Nibble Munch Crunch a My Very First Game from HABA

Would a turtle like to eat a dog bone? Should we feed a fish to a rabbit? Which animal likes cheese the best?

Enjoy playing with your youngest children in this adorable new “First Game” for children from HABA!

How Do You Play Nibble Munch Crunch?

You can enjoy playing Nibble Munch Crunch in a variety of ways!

1: Free Play!

Let your child have fun with the materials and explore them in a rules-free way!

2: What Do Animals Eat?

Work together to match the 5 animal tiles with the types of food they like to eat.

3: Who Eats What?

A memory game for 2-5 players! Everyone chooses a wooden piece of food, matching it with its cut out tile. All the other tiles are flipped over and kids take turns choosing a tile, seeing if it matches their food. If it does, they get to keep it, if not put it back but remember what it was so you don’t choose it next time!

What Do We Think?

Nibble Munch Crunch is a simple matching and memory game that works well for your youngest toddlers. Perfect for ages 18 months to 3 years.

I always love an animal themed game for kids at this stage. It always seems to land well. Nibble Munch Crunch features many of their favorite animals and does a nice job of providing kids the chance to think about what type of food they might like to eat best while encouraging cooperation and developing memory and fine motor skills.

The cardboard is all very thick and sturdy; perfect for little hands. Wooden food pieces fit into the cut outs in the cardboard for a puzzle element as well. These wooden pieces are nice for free play! Our little kids used them to pretend feed the animals. Harry especially loved to tease each animal with the wrong food first and then show them the right food. It’s so fun to watch how each kid finds different ways to engage with the materials.

I really enjoyed that the matching component required kids to think about texture as well as colors and shapes. This was a bit trickier for our Harry (3) but was a great thing for him to work on. While the cardboard pieces aren’t “textured” themselves, they provide a close up view of the food item. This provides a nice opportunity for discussion and vocabulary building! Discussing what it looks like and how it might feel are great jumping off points for parents to pursue with their kids.

Nibble Munch Crunch also grows with your kids who will undoubtably grow out of this matching game quickly. The memory game is the perfect next step for kids that have mastered the matching portion and will give them a challenge without it feeling too overwhelming or difficult.

Summary

Nibble Munch Crunch is a cute game that is a great starting point for parents looking for ways to help their younger toddlers learn to follow game rules. Not only will the game help them develop important learning skills such as memory and matching abilities, but it’s also fun to play with which aids their emotional and social development along with growing those ever important vocabulary skills!

Older toddlers nearing preschool may age out of this game too quickly so I recommend getting Nibble Munch Crunch for kids nearing age 2 so you can get the most enjoyment out of this game before they are ready for a larger challenge.
