A carefree day at the beach turns into a food flinging frenzy with Mickey and Friends in Food Fight! Roll, toss, and laugh your way to an empty tray to win!
How Do You Play Food Fight?
Your goal is to get all of the food off of your tray before your opponents. You’ll do this by rolling three dice. One tells you which food you can move off of your plate, the other tells you how many of that type, and the third tells you which direction you move it.
Everyone goes at the same time, rolling their dice and moving their food items as quickly as they can until someone has an empty tray and wins a Mickey Medal. The first to three Mickey medals wins!
The game rules come with a lot of different ways to play the game to both simplify it for younger members of the family as well as make it even more frantic, if that is something you’re looking for.
What Do We Think?
I’m not going to bury the lead here: we had a BLAST playing Food Fight!
Food Fight is an excellent family game. It’s simple to learn, easy to play, and provides just the right amount of frenzied excitement to get everyone laughing. Our kids’ laughter rang through the whole house while playing. Those fun, laughter filled moments shared as a family is what it’s all about.
We’ve played many games of LCR (Left Center Right) on Adam’s side of the family which this game felt very reminiscent of. It’s simple fun that anyone can enjoy and I love how the spirit of that game has been used in Food Fight. This is a great example of an Intellectual Property game done right. I love the use of the new Mickey Mouse cartoon art. The game is based on the animated short No Service from the Mickey Mouse and Friends shorts which our kids find hilarious.
The cardboard food pieces are also really chunky which makes them easy to pick up and manipulate quickly. This also gives them a good weight, so when you toss it onto the plate of someone else, it tends to stay there.
We did implement a house rule that you might want to try in your home. We said that if you tossed food onto some else’s plate and it went flying off the table, you had to retrieve it. This kept the kids from getting too caught up in the moment and flinging food pieces everywhere.
Is There Value to Playing a Game Like Food Fight?
Is Food Fight a wildly strategic game? No, but that’s okay!
However, there is some value to be found in Food Fight for your kids.
If you’re looking for a way to sharpen your processing skills, a game like Food Fight is a great choice. It’s simple choices, but you really have to be able to focus and act quickly. What I really like is how kids (and adults) have to process information quickly with distractions. The game can get loud (though not raucous) as everyone is excitedly rolling, moving, verbally processing, and saying things like “give food to ____, their tray’s almost empty!”
This is a really fun way to sharpen the processing speed skills in kids without any rules overwhelm!
Many Ways to Adjust the Rules
We really appreciated the different suggestions the rules came with for modifying the game. Many of them can help you make the game simpler for younger players to level the playing field where processing abilities differ widely.
These all help make the game a more inviting and accessible experience for the whole family.
Summary
Food Fight is sure to be a hit for family game night. Our kids loved the Disney Fab Five theme and couldn’t wait to choose their favorite Mickey Mouse character. This is a great choice for those looking for a fun game you can teach in a minute to a wide range of ages. It’s the type of controlled chaos that can lead to memorable game nights together.
Food Fight filled our house with laughter which for me is the biggest endorsement I think I can give.
