Hero Hockey Review

We’re sharing a look at Hero Hockey, the new hockey game played with magnets from the makers of Klask!

How Do You Play Hero Hockey?

Hero Hockey is a tabletop hockey game powered by magnets. Players will hold onto magnets under the table that connect to their player pawn above the table. By moving the magnet they move their pawn and can hit the ball to score or block.

The first to six points wins.

For a look at how the game plays (and how much fun our kids have playing it) check out our Instagram Reel.

What Do We Think?

Hero Hockey is an absolute blast.

This is the plastic version of the wooden game Klask. It has been remade to be easier played by (and marketed to) kids.

Three things I love about Hero Hockey:

1. It Takes Up Very Little Space

The game board can be taken apart so it can be stored much easier than Klask. When set up the games are identical in size. The plastic seems sturdy. We’ve set up and taken apart the game daily for weeks and have had no issues.

As a result, you are able to store Hero Hockey much easier. We store ours in a small unused space beneath a bottom shelf and the floor.

2. The Game Piece is Perfectly Sized for Kids

The super hero characters are thicker so its easier for kids to hit the small ball. I also love the bats as it adds a little extra length to further aide kids in making blocks and saves.

The magnets on the player pieces must stay connected to the board to play. Due to this things can’t get too crazy. As a result, kids must keep their excitement and movements relatively controlled so their player pawn remains in play. The games can still get rowdy, but it’s the controlled chaos that I as a parent love.

3. The Theme is Exciting

We’ve had Klask for the entirety of our children’s game playing lives and it has never held their attention like Hero Hockey has. This game has been non-stop fun for weeks in our house. The kids wake up early to play it each morning together and it is the cutest thing. I think the combination of the theme with the kid sized pieces that make playing easier make the game more inviting for them.

Is it as beautiful as the wooden Klask? No. But that’s okay — the kids love it and they are who the game is intended for.

Should you get Hero Hockey or Klask?

If you are looking to get the game primarily for children I recommend going with Hero Hockey. I love that the kids can get this out to play on their own and I don’t feel the need to oversee the game as much as I do the more beautiful (and fragile) Klask.

Summary

Hero Hockey is an instant recommend! This is the perfect birthday/Christmas gift that you can guarantee will be a hit. With so many battery powered, smart phone dependent tech toys available, the screen-free, technology-free fun of Hero Hockey is a welcome respite.
