March Gaming Recap

In March, we played 39 different games from new releases to old classics. Here are our picks for the best games we played last month.

Monthly recaps are to help you know about all the games we played in the past month and share our favorite games as well as some end-of-month awards. Not all of the games we play make it onto social media or the blog so this is a fun way to show you what we have played behind the scenes and which games left an impression.

Check out our previous month’s recaps: January 2022 | February 2022.

March Games Played

Make sure to let us know on our social accounts which of these games you want to hear more about!

Kelsey’s Favorite Game: Harry Potter House Cup Competition

This was the last game we played in March and it was a surprise hit! I wasn’t expecting much from this Harry Potter themed worker placement game, but after one play I can’t wait play it again.

I loved leveling up my characters to complete lessons to gain bonuses and complete challenges to earn points. How the game displays the scores in the house vials is the prefect thematic touch. As we’re reading aloud the Harry Potter series to our kids, it was fun to add to that a game that excited them while providing some really solid gaming mechanisms to challenge as well!

Highly recommend this for any Harry Potter fan.

Adam’s Favorite Game: Three Sisters

Three Sisters by 25th Century Games is the latest “loaded” roll-n-write game. I love how the game is still easy to play, but offers a lot of choices and opportunities to pull off cool combo on your turn. I ‌prefer my roll-n-write experience to play in 30 minutes or less, but I had so much fun planting my gardens in this game I didn’t mind that games lasted over 45 minutes.

Kid’s Favorite Game: Stella

Our kids love party games and the battle for March’s favorite game was fierce between Just One and Stella with Stella ultimately pulling out the win. The kids loved looking at the Dixit art on the cards and guessing at which cards matched the special word. As a family, we all agree Stella replaces Dixit as our favorite party game with beautiful art.

End of Month Awards

Family Favorite: Quirky Circuits

As a family, this month we have played both the original Quirky Circuits and the newly released Quirky Circuits: Penny and Gizmo’s Snow Day. We love this cooperative programming game. Penny the Penguin has quickly risen to the top as our favorite character to play. She slips and slides all around the board which is both a fun challenge and a good laugh. We highly recommend families check out the new version which has been remade into a more accessible design and price.

Best Expansion: Marvel Legendary: Doctor Strange and the Shadows of Nightmare

Another month and another Marvel Legendary expansion secures this award! The new rules encourage players to build decks focused on recruitment instead of just attack power. We break down everything we’re loving about this expansion here.

Best Components: Project L

We’re keeping our eye out for the reprint of this Tetris style game and will for sure share all the details with you when we get them!

Best FREE App Game: Wavelength (iOS)

Most Surprising Game We Enjoyed:  Who Did It?

We actively avoid any and all “poo” humor or themed games in our home. The kids need no encouragement in this area, trust me. But this little game found its way into our home and was truly an unexpected delight. It’s loosely themed around poo but is actually a speed memory game that made for a silly and fun time for all of us.

Most Played Game: Spot It! – 6 times

We discovered the Board Game Arena version of Spot It! and the kids did not want to stop playing it.

From the Vault – Most Fun Classic Played: Love Letter

It’s amazing how fun Love Letter is with only just 18 cards. Pro Tip! Head to the dollar or craft store and replace the wooden cubes with cute red hearts. Our hearts are “table scatter” from Valentines Day decor.
