Knot Dice

Part game, part art piece, Knot Dice provide a wide range of fun from games to puzzles while being beautiful enough you’ll love to have them on your coffee table as home decor.

How Do You Play?

There are multiple ways to play with Knot Dice.

Use them as art by creating unique Celtic knots, play 12 different games, or solve dozens of puzzles!

If you play with 1-2 players, you’ll want the standard version with 18 dice.

To accommodate 3-4 players, the deluxe set includes 36 dice.

All of the various rules for solo, competitive, and puzzle play are included in the rule booklet as well as online so you can easily access the rules if you choose to keep the game displayed outside of the box.

What Do We Think?

Knot Dice are absolutely beautiful and a great reminder that games don’t have to involve huge boxes full of components to be fun or strategic. This is the type of game that I love having in my home. You can easily put this in a cute bowl or display on a shelf in a jar to add beauty and uniqueness to your home’s decor. Then when guests ask what they are, you can share the fun with them by playing a game or two!

In a lot of ways, the Knot Dice for me function like our Crokinole board does. It provides beauty for us to enjoy during our daily lives, while also being a functional art piece that encourages us to play together. No need to go dig a game out of the shelves, we have one right at our fingertips.

While the dice are a bit on the pricy side, because they can be used as a beautiful display piece, I think it’s easier to justify the cost. My only wish is that the dice would be a bit heavier. As it stands, they feel much lighter than you think they’ll be based on their appearance.

Puzzles

The puzzles are addicting. Working your way through all of the puzzles include in the rules will take time. There are a few different types of puzzles included. I love the completion puzzles personally. With these puzzles you’ll begin with a specific arrangement of dice. Following movement restriction rules, you’ll attempt to create a Knot design where no ends are left open in as few turns as possible. I find myself setting up, completing, and then trying again to see if I can beat my previous score.

Games

From cooperative to competitive there are lots of games to play with these dice. We love racing game Knot So Fast where you are racing to complete designs faster than your opponents. We got so into it that we woke up the baby with our fast dice rolling and laughter. Worth it!

For a less frenzied experience, we also enjoyed Snakes which is a push your luck game. The cooperative Kells games were also a real treat. You work together to complete a Celtic knot using as many dice as possible while trying to keep the design tight. If you can complete the design, you earn a score determined by taking how many dice you used and subtracting the longest dimension (row or column) in your design. It’s tricky yet relaxing.

Overall, we were really impressed with the wide range of ways to play with a single set of dice.

Summary

Easily shared with anyone, Knot Dice are an easy recommend. Knot Dice are the perfect addition for someone looking for a beautiful yet functional piece of game art for their home.
