Updated for 2025! Halloween is almost upon us! There’s nothing more fun than diving into the spooky season spirit and playing a few spooky board games!
I love having a few holiday themed games on our game shelves. These are great to bring out for a few weeks each year and then shelve to build anticipation for the next. It gives everyone, especially kids, something fun to look forward to and helps create special traditions together as a family.
I hope you’ll find something special for your family to enjoy playing together this spooky Halloween season!
The Best Halloween Board Games to play in 2025

Mists Over Carcassonne
1-5 players
After a few years with this game, I’m ready to declare it my favorite spooky season game! The first cooperative Carcassonne will have you working together to place tiles expanding the land, quickly getting rid of ghosts, and containing haunts. This is fun for kids and adults and provides a really fun challenge for Carcassonne fans! I love it for both family night and date night!

Don’t Go in There
2-5 players
This is exactly the type of game we love for Halloween! A wonderfully thematic, spooky yet not scary set collection game. (Some of the cards may be a bit too much for the easily scared kids though, so definitely take a look at them first.) You’ll travel into spooky rooms of a haunted house with your opponents, collecting cards and ghosts. My favorite part is how the box becomes the dice tower you’ll use to drop the glow in the dark ghost dice down.

Horrified
1-5 players
Horrified is a fun, cooperative game series where you’ll work together to combat a variety of classic monsters who are terrorizing the town. Each Monster provides a unique challenge with requiring different strategies to combat. There are multiple games in the Horrified series, each are stand-alone games and all are fun. We suggest choosing the game that has the monsters you’re most excited about to fight. They really are all such a fun time!
Horrified – Horrified: American Monsters – Horrified: Greek Monsters – Horrified: World of Monsters – Horrified Dungeons and Dragons (new for 2025!)

Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters (New Edition!)
This cooperative, kid-friendly adventure lets your family team up to chase ghosts out of a haunted house before you all get overwhelmed! With simple, luck-driven dice rolls and colorful miniatures, it’s perfect for younger players but challenging enough that even adults will get caught up in the fun and suspense. This game is so good you’ll want to play it year-round. We absolutely LOVE the new edition — the 1 vs All game mode is incredibly fun!

Scream!
Scream is a quick card game all about surviving the night in a haunted campground. I love the similarities Scream shares with the classic card game golf making it easy to learn. Using the special card abilities to clear your hand and mix up your opponents’ plans is a lot of fun. This is our go-to quick-to-play, spooky card game this season!

Witchcraft!
A solo game for halloween you’ll love! Witchcraft invites you to step into the shoes of a powerful witch who leads her coven and tries to convince the suspicious townsfolk that they aren’t witches to survive. With engaging deck-building mechanics and clever decision points, you’ll recruit allies, cast spells, and foil relentless accusations in narrative-driven scenarios. Each session feels like your own Halloween story, full of tension and triumph, and is perfectly tuned for cozy solo play on spooky nights. While a solitaire game, we’ve absolutely loved playing this together for date nights!

Phantom Ink
If you enjoy word games with a ghostly twist, Phantom Ink is a must-play for Halloween gatherings. Players channel spirits (not really, just theming) to communicate mysterious clues with invisible ink, making for hilarious and suspenseful rounds. It’s the perfect fusion of deduction, creativity, and that playful sense of the supernatural that makes the season special.

Ghost Blitz
A speedy reaction game with just the right dose of friendly competition, Ghost Blitz is all about sharp eyes and quick grabs as you snatch ghosts, bottles, and other objects from the table. This one always sparks laughter and excitement, especially when someone grabs the wrong piece in the heat of the moment! It’s compact, easy to learn, and works great for training to ensure you don’t miss out on the last snickers bar from the candy bowl!

Obscurio
This beautiful art-driven mystery game is a spooktacular choice for a Halloween game night. With secret roles, you’ll try to work your way out of the Sorcerer’s library with the help of a magical book! But be careful, one of you is trying to make sure you can’t find your escape! Perfect for fans of Dixit and art-driven games!

Silver – Card Game Series
This clever card game combines deduction and memory as you build the best village while protecting it from werewolves. Each Silver game is standalone, but all offer fast-paced turns and unique character abilities that keep everyone on their toes, and the “swap and snipe” gameplay is super satisfying for gamers who love a little take-that strategy. Also, if you get more than one set, you can mix and match characters. It’s spooky, streamlined, and perfect to play several times in one sitting.

Above and Below Haunted
In this special twist on the beloved storytelling game, explore mysterious underground tunnels with a spooky haunted touch! Reading narrative encounters by candlelight makes every session feel like a family-friendly ghost story, and the mix of engine building and adventure is pure magic. It’s a relaxing and immersive way to bring the Halloween spirit to your table.

BOOoop!
2 Players
This two player abstract will get you right in the feels with its cuteness! Boooop is the halloween themed version of Boop and adds Ghost Cats to the mix! If you’re here for a cozy halloween vibe, Boooop is for you.

Spellbook
1-4 players
There’s no better time than now to enjoy wizardry and spell casting! In Spellbook you’ll be creating your own spell combinations which create effects that impact the game. With tons of possible spell combinations, you’ll enjoy a unique game every time!

Boxtop Pinball: Haunted House
1-4 players
New this year to our Halloween board game collection is Box Top Pinball! This is such a fun and clever game design that turns the box into a, you guessed it, Pinball game! We’ve all had a blast! There’s something so fun about flicking a dice down the ramp and trying to hit various targets. I’ll be playing it all October long!

Potion Explosion
2-4 players
Brew some potions this Halloween! Potion Explosion takes the fun of an app like bejeweled and turns it into a board game! This game is fun, clever, and I know you’ll love the ridiculously satisfying marble sorter.

Whirling Witchcraft
2-5 Players
The art is top-notch in this beautiful game about rival witches brewing potions to overload their opponent’s cauldron. Each player gets a unique witch’s power which can help specialize their engine and variability to each game. It plays quickly you’ll be able to play this several times during your Hocus Pocus rewatch.

The Shivers
2-5 Players
A fun narrative, role playing adventure game! We love how each scene of the game comes alive with detailed pop-ups! Explore a magical mansion together to solve a mystery. Simple rules with unique components make this a great thematic and memorable family game to enjoy during this season!

Mysterium Kids
2-6 Players
This adorable cooperative game will have kids using a Tamborine to recreate the sounds objects make for their fellow players to guess. Games play quick and are perfect for kids as young as 5!

Ticket to Ride Ghost Train
2-4 players
For the little ones not quite ready for the full blown Ticket to Ride experience, Ticket to Ride Ghost Train is the perfect thematic Junior version. It’s not just fun for little kids though! Our whole crew loves playing together!

Magic Mountain
1-6 players
One of our favorite kid games and perfect for younger kids who might need a bit more movement and toy factor in their games. Drop marbles down the mountain to get your students to the bottom before the witches! You’ll love playing as much as your kids!

Photophantom: The Young Detective and the Shy Ghost
2-6 players
This one is for those who need a compact speed game! Quickly grab the detective or ghost figure once you interpret the trick on each new card. A spiritual successor to Ghost Blitz (another great one for this season!)

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza Halloween Special Edition!
3-8 Players
This is a standalone expansion pack for the popular card game. Playing just like the original with new Halloween themed characters and action cards. Players will try to eliminate their hand of cards first to win. We love having the Christmas themed pack for December. It’s these fun little moments we get to share for a few weeks a year.
Games for a Larger Group
These games are great for a spooky halloween party!

Mysterium Park
2-7 Players
Become psychics determined to uncover the truth. You’ll communicate with a ghost through illustrated cards. Mysterium Park is a clever, cooperative mystery game that is the quicker, more streamlined successor to the highly popular Mysterium. If you’re choosing between the two, we recommend going with Myserium Park.

Werewords
4-10 players
One of my favorite word games! Guess the secret word by asking yes or no questions, but one among you is the werewolf and is trying to lead you astray! This is a game you can teach in a minute and play for hours! Works excellently with a large group and is friendly for young and old!

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong
4-12 players
Solve a gruesome crime as criminal investigators. However, the murderer’s team will try their best to deflect blame to someone else. This is one of the best social deduction games you’ll play!
(Cards contain graphic content. Some players may prefer removing some before play. Parents should preview before playing with children under 13.)
