Flip or Quit is a simple card game that can be a reliable boredom buster, especially for kids who need something low-effort they can set up and play on their own. You’re simultaneously pushing your luck to pick up as many cards as you can on your turn, and trying to remember where all the cards you’ve previously seen are. The combination of push your luck stress and working memory turns a simple game in to a tricky challenge!
What You Need
A standard deck of cards and two or more players.
Setup
Shuffle the deck and lay out 24 cards face down in a 4×6 grid.
You can customize this and use more cards if you are playing with more players, want a longer game, or a bigger challenge. But a 4×6 grid is great for quick games, especially for kids.
How to Play
Players take turns flipping cards one at a time, adding up the values as they go. The goal is to collect cards without letting your running total exceed 20. At any point you can stop and collect all the flipped cards into your victory pile. But if you flip a card that pushes your total to 21 or more, you bust, and all those cards get flipped back over. So make sure you’re paying attention!
Cards are worth their face value. Aces are 1, Jacks 11, Queens 12, and Kings 13.
The player with the most cards at the end wins.
