Top 10 Board Games like Pictionary for Creative Fun

Looking for the best board games like Pictionary? You’ve come to the right place!

Pictionary was my absolute favorite game growing up. As an artistic kid, I loved any excuse to tap into my creative side. Nowadays, it’s amazing to see how many board games have captured the spirit of Pictionary, reimagining it for both the artistically inclined and those who prefer to guess rather than draw.

Pictionary stands out for its easy rules and versatility, making it perfect for both small gatherings and large groups of 20+ (For those big games, a large whiteboard is a must!). What I love most about Pictionary is that it doesn’t matter if you have art skills or not. It’s all about sketching quickly and making your drawing guessable.

We’re big fans of party games and have played our fair share of games like Pictionary. We’re here to share our top picks for your next game night, ensuring you find the perfect fit for endless fun and laughter!

Top 10 Board Games Like Pictionary

Mondrawsity

Mondrawsity is a drawing game without teams all about drawing strange monsters. One player acting as the witness views an image of a strange looking monster for a few seconds only. Then, using their memory, they must tell the other players what this monster looks like. All of the other players must try to draw a creature that matches the description the witness is giving. They’ll then select the player who’s sketch best resembles the monster they saw. It’s such a clever theme!

Pictomania

Pictomania is like if Pictionary was a speed game. Everyone has a specific thing that they are drawing and will all draw at the same time. When a player thinks their drawing is acceptable enough to be guessed, they move on to trying to guess what the other players are drawing and make their guesses by placing cards by other players’ drawings. As soon as they’re done guessing, they quickly grab the scoring tokens from the center. The faster you are, the more points you’ll get — but if you don’t take your time and either guess incorrectly or no one can guess your drawing, you’ll miss out on points.

Telestration

A classic in its own right. Telestrations is a must play for families and friends. Everyone writes a word or phrase on a flip book and passes it to the next player who must draw what they wrote, then they pass again and that player must write what they see, pass again for another round of drawing. Pretty soon, the flip books return to their original players and everyone has a laugh seeing just how close to (or very very far from) their original idea the sketches became. It’s Pictionary telephone!

Tattoo Stories

This is a great option for those who really love to dive into the drawing and flex their creative muscles. All tattoos have a story and in this game players will take turns telling stories using prompt cards that have elements that must be worked into a tattoo that the other player will draw. It’s perfect for playing in person or over a video call — which is exactly how me and my family have played!

A Fake Artist Goes to New York

This game takes Pictionary and adds in a hidden role. Players will take turns adding an element to a drawing that all players are working on together. Everyone is given a card that says what they need to draw, except one player who becomes…the fake artist! Their job is to blend in and not get caught, they must add to the drawing in such a way that is not obvious that they have no idea what they’re supposed to be drawing all the while trying to guess what it is.

Concept & Concept Kids

Okay, so you love Pictionary but your group has put a ban on drawing games because you’re too good? Try Concept! This is a super fun game where you’ll use icons on the board to get your teammates to guess different concepts. There’s a variety of concepts ranging from simple to extremely challenging and you’ll have to use your limited clue options to cleverly communicate the concept your team needs to guess.

Toodles

Two friends doodling = Toodles. This is a fun and silly drawing game where you and a partner will each work together to draw an image. Our kids had a blast with it.

Turbo Kidz

One of the most fun drawing games we played last year! You must navigate your way through a race track using your pen to draw your path while being blind folded. Your teammate will direct you by using your thumb like a joystick. It’s the perfect amount of goofy for both kids and adults. (See it played here in this video)

Pictures

Ditch the pens and pencils and use objects to convey a scene. Players must use the included components, a variety of objects from shoelaces, cubes, sticks, and stones, arranging them in such a way so that it resembles one of the images from the center of the table. It’s simple, quick, and artistic in a new way.

Doodle Dash

Doodle Dash level the playing field between the skilled artists and the doodlers. You win by being the fastest doodler but only score if the guesser can figure out what you drew. Artists are challenged to speed up rather than create a work of art meaning those less artistically inclined may have a leg up if they can convey the gist of the prompt card.
