If you’ve been wandering the aisles of Target, the odds are pretty good that you’ve seen one of these Funkoverse Games on the shelves.
With the big head, cutsie FunkoPOP toy factor front and center on the cover, it’s hard to miss them, and they’re definitely adorable enough to make just about anyone stop and pick it up.
However until recently, I have dismissed it all together, concerned that it was more toy than game, and left it on the shelf. But thanks to a great sale and the strong allure of my favorite pop culture paleontologist Ellie Sattler, I finally gave in.
One of my favorite abstract games to play is Mancala. It’s not because it’s particularly exciting, but rather, the beauty and elegance of a well made set always elevates the game and invites me to open it, hold the pieces, and enjoy a game. A good old fashioned challenge between two players.
I felt a similar feeling upon seeing Shōbu for the first time.
At first glance Shobu is a game that just invites you to pick it up. It’s has a beautiful, organic design. And much like the box promises, it is beautifully challenging too!
I don’t know about you, but all of my kids (and me!) LOVE dinosaurs.
We’ve been neck deep in dinosaur facts for about 6 years, fielding every question our kids can throw at us and leaning into the obsession. Honestly, by this point I practically have a degree in Paleontology.
One of the best parts of this hobby is constantly being surprised by new and innovative game worlds that brilliant designers create!
Usually I’m one to say that I’m not a huge fan of the strictly 2-player gaming experience. That’s not to say that there aren’t some great 2-player games out there, but all in all, I find myself more interested by other games that typically seat more than two.
Enter Skulk Hollow: a 2-player combat game that has me bouncing with excitement to play.
You’re definitely going to want to learn more about this one! It’s not your garden variety two player game!
