Hands up if you love racing your family for the win!
There’s nothing quite like a good old fashioned speed game. I grew up playing Speed, wildly diving for spoons in the middle of the table, and frantically rushing through my solitaire deck to shout “Peanuts!” All for the glory of the win!
Flash 8 takes all the fun and adrenaline rush from those games and pairs it with a slide puzzle and let me tell you: it works!
What is Flash 8 and How do you Play?
Flash 8 is a slide puzzle racing game where players each have identical boards with sliding discs that they’ll quickly move around to re-create the combinations on the cards in the center of the table to score points.
In the center of the table, you place stacks of ten cards equal to the number of players there are. So if you are playing with two players, you’ll have two stacks of ten.
Everyone races at the same time to slide their discs around on their boards to make the combinations on the card. When you make one, you shout “Flash,” and grab the card, revealing a new combination underneath.
The game continues until all the cards in the center have been claimed. The person with the most cards wins the game!
What do we think?
Flash 8 is a lot of fun!
I love how they took the classic slide puzzle and made it into a speed puzzle with multiple solutions. Slide puzzles themselves are fairly easy to solve, but when you add the element of speed it raises the stress and instantly makes everything much more challenging.
We really like how Flash 8 can so easily be made to accommodate younger players so that they are able to compete with adults. Simply remove one of the blue discs gives that player two open spaces to move pieces around. This instantly helps them be more competitive without needing to adjust the speed of the game.
Flash 8 is Great for Solo Play!
This is a great game/puzzle to pick up to help work on processing skills! It also will now be one of my go-to’s for quiet time!
I love having a selection of games and puzzles that the kids can choose to work with by themselves during nap/quiet time and Flash 8 was an instant add to that shelf.
Not only can the kids choose to just play the game on their own, practicing completing all the cards, but there is also a fantastic solo mode for an additional challenge!
On the backside of the combination cards is the solo mode side. Each card has one of the electrons on it and a shape surrounding the electron. You’ll place these out in a 3×3 grid and set a 4 minute timer.
Start the timer and try to recreate one of the lines on the grid. When you do, you choose one of the symbols featured on the three cards and cover the cards with that symbol in that line with new cards. You may not complete the same line two times in a row, and must now complete a different line.
You continue until either the timer has run out, you’ve run out of cards, or you can no longer recreate any line on the grid.
Seriously, it is addictive!
I love that the solo mode is simple enough to learn that my older kids can play it on their own. I’ve added this game to our quiet time/nap time shelf where I like to keep all my favorite games and puzzles that the kids can choose to play on their own during quiet times during the day.
Summary
If you are a fan of classic puzzles or are looking for a fun game you can play with the whole family I highly recommend picking up Flash 8!
It’s a simple yet addicting challenge that we can’t get enough of. I love that it takes only about 5 minutes to play. This means we can play a few games back to back before or after dinner as a family. It’s a nice choice when looking for a quick activity to enjoy together.
Plus, with solo mode, this can be a great tool for parents looking for something their kids to play independently!
