During these first few weeks of summer break, we’ve welcomed a new baby into our family and have been spending a lot of time at home together. While adjusting to our new life as a family of nine, we’ve been getting in a lot of quality game time together.
If you’ve been following us for a while, you know we love a good strategy game to sink our teeth into, but recently, and largely thanks to the newborn sleep deprivation, we’ve been prioritizing quick games we can play with the kids. These have been perfect for making sure we can get in special time with our older kids in quick bursts between newborn naps. They’re perfect for your next family game night too!
Marvel United
We’ve been playing this cooperative game for years and it is still a delight. This bundle with the Spiderman and Dr. Strange expansions is excellent when you can catch it on a deal! Or get the X-Men version if you’re a fan of those characters! Lately it’s been hitting the table even more than usual because the kids have taken on painting the miniatures from the game as their summer art project! Learn all about how we’re painting miniatures here. 1-4 players
Piñata Blast
This is a fast and silly dice game perfect for family’s that love speed games like spoons! It’s simple fun for nights when you just want to laugh together without exerting too much brain power. 3-6 players
The Number
A break out hit for us this summer! The Number is a party style game that is incredibly simple to learn but has a subtle depth you’ll discover upon playing. 3-5 players
In the Footsteps of Darwin
One of our newest favorites. In the Footsteps of Darwin is a great board game for both kids and adults. Simple enough you can play with players as young as 6 or 7 while still being interesting for adults. Plus the game art is absolutely beautiful! 2-5 players
Cover Your Cookies
This delicious card game is the cookie themed version of Cover Your Assets; a long time family favorite for us! This cookie version has a few unique twists from the original that we love and is now our preferred version of the game to play! 3-6 Players
Spots
A break out hit! We played Spots on Board Game Arena one evening and had it ordered for the house before we went to bed. This is the kind of dice rolling, push your luck fun that is going to create some of your most favorite game night memories! 1-4 players
Vivarium
Vivarium has all the drafting, set collection goodness that you could want from a quick play game. Our kids also love how much the creatures remind them of Pokemon. 2-4 players
Nimalia
I love the clever card layering element to this game! Each card you play is an interesting decision between possibly covering up future points to secure current scoring opportunities. It’s addicting! 2-4 players
