We’re taking a quick look at Downtown Farmer’s Market in this review. A fast and light puzzle perfect to enjoy over your morning coffee before perhaps heading off to your local Farmer’s Market!
How Do You Play Downtown Farmer’s Market?
Players will work to fill up their 4×4 grid by drafting tiles. On the outside of their grid are scoring tiles, gained randomly and placed by each player strategically. These tiles show the conditions that must be met within each row and column.
For instance, to score a row, you may be required to only have 5 total items in that row. Then in an intersecting column you may have to have 11 items to score. Still in another perhaps you only score the row if there are no milk or corn items present on the tiles.
Players will work to satisfy as many of these scoring conditions as they can by drafting and placing market tiles into their grid.
When the 4×4 area is filled, you’ll check each row and column to see which have the ingredients required to complete the scoring conditions to earn points. The player with the most points is the winner.

What Do We Think of Downtown Farmer’s Market?
Downtown Farmer’s Market is a really nice and satisfying puzzle.
It’s the kind of game you can teach in just a handful of minutes and get right to playing with almost any group of any age. We’ve played this with our young son who, despite not really being able to grasp the scoring concept, was still happy to draft and place tiles on his grid.
If you are looking at this to play with your own children, I would say that around 6 is a good age to have a chance at making meaningful decisions that earn them points.
This is a great choice for folks who want a quieter filler game. Most ever game is played in amicable silence as you think through each move. Though prepare for some stern stares when you take a tile someone else desperately needs!
Downtown Farmer’s Market is an entirely abstract game, but the Farmer’s Market theme works well and the art style suits the experience. We have enjoyed playing at all player counts. In a lot of ways, Downtown Farmers Market feels like an easier, more approachable placement puzzle similar to Tiny Towns.
Easy to teach and fast to play, Downtown Farmers Market is a nice, compact game I have no problem recommending to anyone looking for a puzzle style filler game.
You might like Downtown Farmer’s Market if you:
- Enjoy games like sudoku
- want a fast filler game you can play in less than 20 minutes
- Like making decisions based on what is in your opponents best interest as well as your own.
You May not like Downtown Farmer’s Market if you:
- Hate looking at a variety of food icons.
There’s really nothing to not like here, if the above sounds like something you’d enjoy, I don’t think there’s anything in the game that might surprise you otherwise.
