Board Game Challenge

Happy New Year Friends! If you’re looking for a fun way to work more gaming into your New Year Resolutions, we’ve got you covered!

Who doesn’t love checking things off the to-do list? It is so satisfying!

There’s something so fun about setting a goal, whether its large or small, and then checking it off once completed.

We love to make lists in our house.

At the start of every year we all sit down and come up with our own individual bucket list items we hope to accomplish that year. We also make a list for the family as a whole. Oh, and on top of that, we also love to make seasonal bucket lists to keep us active, busy, and excited for all the things to do in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and yes, even Winter. (brrrr!)

So it should come as no surprise that we are really into making board game challenge lists too!

Making a list of the board games we hope to play helps keep us actively gaming and excited about the hobby. It also helps us keep bringing back old favorites to the table lest they be overshadowed by the new hotness.

If you’re anything like us, sometimes life can get in the way of the hobbies and activities that we enjoy. Running a family of 7 is no joke. These kids keep us on our toes, running all around town, and in a constant battle with laundry and dishes.

Board games are such a great way to connect and enjoy each others company; offering a welcome reprieve from screens and life’s many chores. Having these board game challenges gives us a fun little motivator to keep playing games with our kids, and also to keep breaking out the games with each other and our friends when the kids head to bed.

That’s why we have created some board game challenges for you to enjoy along with us!

These challenges don’t have to be started at any particular time. Whenever the feeling strikes you you can start playing through your collection and challenging yourself to keep getting games to the table.

We have three unique challenges for you to look through!

Select one, two, or all three! Whichever one(s) work best for you!

The Classic 10 x 10 Challenge.

This challenges you to pick ten different games and try to play them each ten times. This can be an intense challenge depending on which games you select. And its oh-so-satisfying when you’ve completed that last, final play!

Do you have what it takes to play 10 games a total of 100 times?

The 20 x 3 Challenge (Our personal favorite)

We love to have a little variety in our lives. So while the 10 x 10 challenge is fun, we often find that we’re a little bored with a game after a certain number of plays and crave something different. We don’t want gaming to feel like a chore, that you have to play something 4 more times to check it off.

That’s why we made the 20 x 3 challenge!

Here you can write down 20 titles that you hope to play 3 different times. Fill in all 20 at once or leave some spaces open for any games you might acquire and want to add to the challenge throughout the year!

There’s also an “unplayed games” list. Here we like to write what’s on our “Shelf of Shame.” The shelf holding all of the games we’ve yet to play. We always try to keep that shelf as small as possible because what’s the point of buying a game if you aren’t going to play it?

Write down the games you’ve purchased or received but have yet to play here! Cross them off once you’ve gotten them to the table!

The 5 x 5 Challenge

Do you have a smaller shelf of games? Maybe you have some heavier titles that you can’t imagine playing ten times, but want to try for five? Looking for a way to get your kids involved?

Awesome! Let’s do it!

We use this 5 x 5 challenge for our kids! Each kid who is old enough to play gets to write a list of the five games they want to play five times. They love burning through and checking everything off their lists. Often they’ll try to convince us to do it in a day. (That answer’s no, kids!)

It may seem like a much smaller challenge, but it still represents 25 unique plays of five different games

That’s a lot of gaming!

Monthly Play Tracker

At the bottom of each challenge we’ve also included a monthly “games played” tracker.

Keep a tally of how many plays you have each month or turn it into a challenge as well. Maybe you want to aim for a certain number of plays each month. It’s up to you! However you use it, it’s always fun to see how many times you play games and what month you play games more often.

To use any of these challenges in your home, just follow THIS LINK for the free download so you can print it off and get started gaming!

We’d love to see what games you are challenging yourselves to play! Comment below with what challenges you’re doing and what games you’re including!

Happy gaming, friends!
