5 Great Board Games for 5-7 Year Olds
Need some great board games for 5-7 year olds? Here are FIVE of our favorite math, deduction, cooperative, dexterity, and memory games for this age!
Dragomino
This is my current top choice for games that introduce math concepts for kids in this age range.
They’ll be learning about probability as they try to get as many baby dragons as possible from the different landscapes on their island. Each land type has a 7 baby dragons hidden among the eggs. The more common the landscape type the more eggs there are to choose from thereby decreasing your odds of finding a baby dragon.
Kids quickly catch on to this concept and will begin making strategic decisions on which tiles to draft to their island based on the available eggs in specific regions.
Cloaked Cats
For a great deduction game, check out Cloaked Cats!
This is an excellent choice for when you want to exercise your critical thinking muscles. Kids will learn to use the information they have to help them determine what they don’t know as they try to “unmask” players at the masquerade party.
I love how players will learn to be patient and perceptive — assessing each new piece of information players reveal and playing cards cleverly to learn even more.
Cloaked Cats plays quickly. Each game takes just about 10-15 minutes
SOS Dino
With amazing table presence, SOS Dino offers kids the chance to work together.
Drawing path tiles from a bag, kids will work to direct the flow of the dangerous lava away from the dinosaurs, enabling them to maneuver the dinos around the board to save their eggs.
Each game is fun and tricky — providing a great opportunity for teamwork as players work together to achieve victory and a high score.
Dr. Eureka
An oldie but a goodie! Dr. Eureka has been delighting our kids for years and it is still one of the main game I reach for.
Each player has three test tubes with two balls in three colors. Without dropping a ball on the table, players must transfer the different colored balls back and forth between the test tubes to fulfill different pattern cards.
This is an excellent dexterity game that will not only challenge kids’ focus and coordination, but also improve their order and processing skills.
The Magic Labyrinth
One of my favorite memory games!
The Magic Labyrinth will test your child’s perseverance skills as they work to maneuver through a maze they cannot see. Players will move their pawn around the board to try and get to different symbols. Underneath the board is a maze as well as a magnetized ball attached to their player pawn. You must maneuver through the maze without running into a wall, forcing your ball to drop. When that happens, you must remember where it was so you don’t run into it again.
This is tricky for young and old alike!
